Changelog
Everything new on Waypoint — the free live map and flight tracker for Infinite Flight. Updates ship continuously; the highlights land here.
Pilot Chat
7 Aug 2026
- Say hello to the pilots around you. Waypoint now has a Pilot Chat: an open channel shared by everyone flying within 150 nm of you, right on the map. Tap the new speech-bubble button, spawn into a flight, and whatever you type reaches the aircraft in your bubble — great for a quick “nice landing”, forming up on approach, or just some company on a long leg. Each Infinite Flight server has its own chat, so you only talk to pilots you actually share the sky with.
- Mention a nearby pilot with @ and they get a push notification and a little bubble on the map — all opt-in and switch-off-able in the chat's own settings, along with an unread badge on the icon. Tap the header to see exactly who's in range — callsign, aircraft and distance — and tap a name to fly the map straight to them. React to any message with an emoji, reply, mute or report.
- Ocean crossings pull everyone together. On a long haul over the Atlantic, Pacific, Indian Ocean or South Atlantic the chat widens by itself to the whole crossing, so you're never alone out there — while still keeping the pilots right around you.
- New: a worldwide Global room. Switch between Nearby and Global at the top of the chat — Global is one channel for every Waypoint pilot, wherever they are, flying or not.
- Anyone can read along, even signed out; to write, sign in and set your Infinite Flight username. Everything is moderated with an automatic filter and a human team who can time out or ban — links and personal information aren't allowed. Messages are public within range, vanish after an hour and are never stored.
Flight Recap Cards & Monthly Wrapped
5 Aug 2026
- Share your landing. The moment your landing report appears, so does a new Share button — it turns the flight you just finished into a beautiful card: your route drawn across a world map, flight time, distance, touchdown verdict and fuel burned. One tap sends it to Discord, Instagram or wherever your crew hangs out.
- Waypoint Wrapped. Once a month, your flying gets the highlight reel it deserves. Open your profile and tap Your Wrapped for a story-style recap of the month — hours in the air, every airport and country you touched, your most-flown aircraft and your longest flight — ending in a share-ready summary card.
- Both are drawn right on your device from what's on screen — nothing about your flying is stored on our side.
iOS Lock Screen Widgets
5 Aug 2026
- Waypoint now lives on your iPhone Lock Screen. Touch and hold the Lock Screen, tap Customise, add widgets above or below the clock and you'll find a set of Waypoint ones — glanceable, always on, and refreshing on their own.
- Live flight. A little aeroplane gauge that fills as your flight progresses, with the percentage — or, in the second variant, the time remaining — shown right in the ring. Choose the wider rectangular style instead and it reads your callsign, your route and how far you have left. It follows whatever you're flying and switches by itself as you take off, taxi and park.
- Home airport. Pin an ICAO in the widget's settings and keep an eye on any field from the Lock Screen — how many aircraft are inbound and how many ATC positions are open right now.
- Network pulse. A tiny live count of how busy the Expert Server is — aircraft airborne and controllers online — without ever unlocking your phone.
- They sit right alongside the Home Screen widgets and the live-flight Live Activity that were already there, so you can build whatever glance suits you best.
Live Delays & Airport Disruption
31 Jul 2026
- Every live flight now carries a schedule. Open any aircraft and you'll see its scheduled departure and arrival right next to the actual departure and the expected arrival — so you can tell at a glance whether it's on time or slipping behind, the way a real departure board reads. It's there from the moment a flight pushes back, all the way to the gate.
- How the times are worked out: Infinite Flight has no timetable, so a flight's scheduled departure is its pushback plus ten minutes, and the scheduled arrival adds a flight time computed for that exact aircraft type — its normal cruise speed and altitude — with the winds along the route folded in. The expected arrival tracks the live estimate once the flight is properly under way, and freezes the moment it lands at the gate.
- At the gate you can set your own plan — pushback time, target arrival and take-off weight — and those replace our estimates for everyone tracking your flight.
- New: a live airport Disruption score. On any airport's General tab there's now a 0–5 index of how backed-up the field is right now — green for good flow, amber for minor delays, red for major — with a trend arrow. It reads two things you can see on the map: the average departure delay of the aircraft in the queue, and how many are lined up waiting for the runway. No cancellations or day-old stats — just how busy it is this minute.
- The airport panel got a tidy-up around it: a country flag with the local temperature and wind in the header, taller panels on desktop that match the flight panel, and the Departures / Arrivals / On-ground lists now fill the whole panel instead of a short preview.
Airport Boards & Flight Planning
31 Jul 2026
- The departure and arrival boards on the airport panel have a cleaner look: each row now shows the time, the airline, the other airport and a status — Estimated, Landing, Departed — with a coloured dot, so a busy field reads at a glance.
- Plan a flight ahead of time. Open any airport's Departures board and tap “Plan a flight” to schedule one — a departure airport, an arrival airport and your times, tied to your Infinite Flight username. It then appears as a Scheduled row on the boards of both airports, right above the live traffic.
- Virtual airline events show up too: a published event now lists on the departure board of the airport it leaves from (and the arrival board, when the organiser set a flight time), so members can see what's coming.
- Your plans are yours to manage — the planning window lists your upcoming ones so you can remove any you no longer need.
- When you have more than one aircraft parked, the departure-time pop-up now lets you pick which one you're setting the plan for.
Your Profile, Reimagined
30 Jul 2026
- Your profile is now a proper full-screen window, and it opens the moment you tap the profile icon — no small pop-up in the way anymore. Inside, a menu across the top splits everything into its own page, so the first thing you see is just you.
- Overview. Your lifetime Infinite Flight career up top — flights, hours, landings, XP and ATC operations, all of it all-time. Below that, a snapshot from your recent logbook: how far you've flown (and how many times around the Earth), an estimate of the fuel it took, the airports and continents you touched, your longest flight, your busiest route, your most-used aircraft and your personal records. The live aircraft card can be folded away when you don't need it.
- Badges. Forty of them, earned from your real stats — flight hours (250h up to 10,000h), landings, flights, every grade from 1 to 5, XP and ATC operations. Each shows the share of Waypoint pilots who hold it, so you can see how rare yours are.
- Places you've been. New badges for airports, countries and continents visited — reach all 215 countries or land on all 7 continents for the top tiers. These count the flights you log in Skydeck, the same trips as your Skydeck airport checklist.
- Friends. Save pilots by their Infinite Flight username and open anyone's full profile — their grade, stats and logbook — the same rich view as your own, even when they're offline. Your friends are shared with the map, so they're highlighted there too.
- Also in the window: the desktop app download for Mac and Windows, your Skydeck standing, a place for the coming Infinite Flight connection, your map colours and your account settings.
- It opens fast: once loaded, a profile — yours or a friend's — is held for 15 minutes, so reopening it is instant.
Choose Your Profile Picture
26 Jul 2026
- The picture other pilots see next to your callsign on the live map is now yours to pick. Open Your profile and you get three choices for it.
- Your login picture, the avatar from the account you signed in with, exactly as before.
- Your Skydeck avatar, the cartoon pilot you have dressed up with your Coins.
- Your own photo, uploaded from your device. Uploads go through a quick staff review first, the same way airport photos do, and appear on your flights once approved.
- It stays optional: your picture only shows when Show my picture on my flights is switched on.
Introducing Skydeck
25 Jul 2026
- This is a big one. Waypoint just shipped its biggest feature yet, and it turns your flying into a whole game of its own: Skydeck. Every aircraft in Infinite Flight has its own collectible card, and the only way to earn and level up a card is to actually fly that plane. No menus to grind, no packs to buy: you fly it, you log it, the card climbs. It's free, it's live, and your whole collection is already sitting there waiting to be unlocked.
- The cards. Every aircraft has a card with real-world stats. Fly it once to unlock it (a New card! reveal), then climb five tiers: Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Ultra (Ultra even gets a rotating rainbow ring). XP is your minutes airborne, and each aircraft category has its own thresholds so a Cessna hop and a 777 leg take roughly the same number of flights per tier.
- Three ways to log a flight. Log the live flight you're making, log one from your last 10 logbook pages, or fly for a virtual airline (real hours only, no VA multiplier). It has to be a real multiplayer flight between two different airports, and a flight can only ever be logged once. You always type the details yourself; we verify and store only your entry, never Live API data.
- Glow airports. Every day, 10% of the world's airports secretly glow. Depart from or land at one and the flight earns +1 Glow on that card. Glow stacks forever, the list rotates daily, and nothing shows it to you: you find out by flying, and by telling each other.
- Coins and level. Earn 25 Coins per flight hour plus a bonus for every level you climb. Your overall Skydeck level is the sum of all your cards' XP and keeps going with no cap.
- Your avatar. Dress up a cartoon pilot with your Coins: hair, beard, glasses, hats and 240+ country flags. Try anything on for free, buy it to keep it.
- Battle arena. Build a deck of five cards and play 1v1, live, for Coins. Find an opponent through matchmaking or a challenge link, set your stake, and play five rounds of stat categories that stay hidden until each round begins. There is always a winner, and every win is tracked all-time.
- Trophies, leaderboard, friends and a public page. There are 21 trophies to earn, an aircraft encyclopedia (Skypedia), a leaderboard that ranks pilots by hours, XP, Coins or Wins (all aircraft or a single type), pilots you can follow, and a shareable collection page at waypoint-live.app/skydeck/your-username.
- Where to find it. On desktop, the stacked-cards button on the map's right-hand dock, just above Virtual airlines. On phones, open Settings then Skydeck. Sign in, set your Infinite Flight username, and start flying.
Virtual Airlines: Career, Missions, a Shop & Badges
23 Jul 2026
- A big round for virtual airlines, almost all of it straight from the feedback thread on the forum. Thank you — nearly every line below started as somebody's post.
- Routes database, rebuilt. Your network now carries scheduled flight time, a codeshare flag and a comment per route, and you can edit a route after adding it instead of deleting and retyping. Import a CSV file straight from your spreadsheet — it works out the separator itself and matches columns by their headings, so an export from any tool tends to just land. There's a dice button that picks you a random route when you don't know what to fly, and a filter for 'only what I'm allowed to fly'.
- Aircraft can require a rank. Say the 777 is for Senior First Officers and above, and pilots below that see it greyed out with the reason — on routes, on the fleet board and when filing a report. One aircraft you're cleared for is enough for a route to open up.
- Career mode: a month of flying as one chain. Your roster is generated from your airline's own network, starting where you are and always departing from where the last leg landed, filtered to what your rank may fly. You're paid in your airline's currency, and there's a shop for a bonus multiplier or a relocation to somewhere else on the map — with travel time, so it costs you something.
- Missions, for the bush-flying side. Staff post jobs between any airports, in several legs if they like. You buy the fuel yourself up front and get it back in full when the job is approved, on top of the fee. Career and missions share one wallet.
- Your airline's own shop. Put anything on the shelf — a livery of the pilot's choice, a special flight, a place on a charter — with your own picture, price, stock and a limit per pilot. Pilots buy with the points they already earn for approved flights, tours and challenges; you just give those points your own name, so they can be Miles or Credits or Stars. Staff get a list of what's been bought and still needs handing over, a refund button, and a column showing who holds how much.
- Badges you draw yourself. Create a badge, upload your own artwork, and hand it out by name or attach it to a tour so finishing that tour awards it. Every badge a pilot has earned across every airline now lives on one page — waypoint-live.app/pilot/your-if-username — which is a link you can post anywhere.
- Ranks can promote themselves. Set the hours a rank expects and tick 'promote automatically', and the rank is given the moment a pilot reaches it. You can count only certain aircraft towards it, so 'Captain after 50 hours on the 787' works. It only ever promotes: a rank you gave by hand is never taken away again. The hours come from the flight reports you approved, so nothing counts before you've seen it.
- Events can pay. Give an event a point value, and pilots tick it when they file the flight afterwards. Signing up beforehand stays what it was — a headcount — and forgetting to press it doesn't cost you the flight.
- Reviewing reports got its middle option. Accept, Reject, and now Hold for the ones you want to come back to, plus a 'recently decided' list and the ability to change your mind — taking an approval back returns the hours, points and pay.
- Reports that match your live flight are approved on the spot. File right after landing and, if what you typed matches the flight we can see, it goes straight through and tells you so. Anything we can't see simply goes to a reviewer as before — it can never reject you. Worth saying plainly: we compare, we don't keep. Infinite Flight's rules don't allow storing Live API flight data, so the record that gets saved is the one you typed.
- Smaller things from the thread: pick a hex colour for your branding, give pilots a company callsign on the roster, and choose a third option for who counts as yours on the map — everyone flying your callsign scheme. The 'who is flying right now' Discord round-up now obeys that choice, which it didn't before. A retired aircraft's registration is free to use again.
- Closing an airline down is finally possible, and it's the owner's alone. Type the name, and 24 hours run during which your whole crew sees a countdown in the crew centre and in your Discord — and you can call it off at any point. Separately, any pilot can now leave an airline and have their own record erased, without needing anyone's help to do it.
- The crew centre is a little roomier: the headline figures only show on My desk now, and the explanatory text got a size bigger.
Three New Home-Screen Widgets
22 Jul 2026
- Three new widgets for your home screen, on Android and iOS, alongside the flight one you already had — all free, small and medium, updating quietly in the background.
- Airport widget: pick any airport and see its inbounds, aircraft on the ground and active ATC at a glance, with the airport photo behind it.
- Server status widget: flights and controllers per server (Expert / Training / Casual). No setup — add it and it just works.
- Virtual airline widget: pick your VA and get who's flying right now plus the top flights, in your VA's own logo and colour.
- To add one, long-press your home screen and search for Waypoint, then long-press the widget to choose the airport, server or VA. It's a beta, so tell us if you'd like another kind.
Virtual Airlines (beta), Map Brightness & Honest Flight Times
21 Jul 2026
- Virtual airlines now have two places instead of one. Your public page — waypoint-live.app/va/your-airline — shows who you are, hours flown together, where you fly, your fleet, the next event and the tour you're running, with one button to join. That's the link to post in your Discord. Everything else moved behind 'Crew centre'.
- The crew centre opens on My desk: the aircraft you booked with its clock running, the leg of the tour you're on, and what's waiting for you. The sections are grouped now — Airline, Flying, Crew — instead of eleven tabs in a row.
- Fleet with bookings. Add your aircraft with registrations, and each one stands at an airport. Book one for a leg, fly it, file the report — once it's approved the aircraft is at the destination, so the next departure starts from there. A booking releases itself after 24 hours, so nobody can lock up the 777 by forgetting about it.
- Tours: a route flown in order, leg by leg, with a progress bar and points at the end. Flying a later leg early doesn't count — that's what keeps it a journey rather than a list.
- Build your own live map for your own website (crew centre, Map): basemap, where it opens, only your aircraft or all traffic with yours picked out, labels, sizes, your colour, day and night, airspace, weather — and a cinema mode that drifts between your hubs and your flights. The preview is the real embed at the real address, so what you approve is what your visitors get.
- You choose how pilots apply: our form with your own questions, your Discord, or your own website (Admin, Branding).
- Your accent colour now runs through the whole VA page — buttons, links, progress bars, tabs — and on the live map each aircraft can carry its airline's logo (Settings, Aircraft labels, VA logo).
- /va in Discord: pilots, who's airborne right now, and a link to the page.
- Virtual airlines have their own button on the map, top of the right-hand dock — and on phones under Settings.
- Map brightness (Settings, Map): dims the map underneath while traffic, routes, weather and navigation stay exactly as bright, so with a lot switched on at once everything still reads. Saved per basemap, and it goes all the way down to a black map with nothing but aircraft on it. Thanks to ethollie2006 on the forum for that last part.
- Flight time no longer counts the AutoPilot+ wait. Infinite Flight pauses a background flight about 30 minutes short of its destination and holds it until the pilot returns — we were adding that wait to the flight time. Where a flight was paused, the panel now says so and for how long.
- Why an aircraft disappears from the map while it waits: Infinite Flight stops reporting it during the pause and brings it back when the pilot resumes, so there is nothing for any map to show in between.
- A route's 'Plan' button now opens the flight planner instead of just dropping you on the map.
Landing Report, Live Fuel & Turbulence
20 Jul 2026
- How your landing went — open any flight that has just landed and you'll find a verdict between the altitude profile and the virtual-org row: Butter · Smooth · Firm · Hard. Tap it and you get everything Infinite Flight recorded for that touchdown — sink rate, g-force, airspeed, how far off the centreline you were, how far past the aiming point you touched down, and your ground roll.
- Fuel burned, live — your flight panel now shows fuel burned while you're still flying, updating during the flight rather than only at the end. It switches to tonnes on the big stuff. There's also a new kg / lbs setting under Settings → Units.
- Turbulence layer (Settings → Weather → Turbulence) — a heat map of clear-air turbulence at whatever altitude your wind slider is set to, blue through amber to red, following the jet streams.
- Being straight with you about what that is: it's a shear index, not the EDR figure the professional charts use — that data isn't publicly available. It finds jet-stream and frontal turbulence well, but it knows nothing about mountain waves or thunderstorm turbulence, and it describes the real atmosphere, which Infinite Flight doesn't simulate.
- Your flight path stays whole — if you fly several legs in one session, the line now keeps running across all of them and so does the altitude graph. Only the departure time follows your current leg. Earlier today an over-eager fix was trimming those previous legs away, which looked like losing your route.
- IF Staff and Moderators are highlighted on the map, parked aircraft included, in Infinite Flight's own staff blue and moderator purple. Can be switched off under Settings → Aircraft.
- General aviation shows your callsign instead of a paint name — a TBM registered as something sensible beats 'Charcoal'.
- 'Clear all' for filters, in the panel, the mobile sheet and the pop-out.
Navigation Display
18 Jul 2026
- The Navigation Display is here. Track any flight and hit 'Navigation display' in the flight panel — up pops a real ND for that aircraft, in a floating window you can drag anywhere and resize from every corner. It remembers its position, size and every setting.
- ARC and ROSE modes, track-up like the real thing — ROSE gives you the full 360° picture, including traffic behind you. Ranges from 10 to 160 nm.
- TCAS-style traffic: relative altitude in hundreds of feet (+20 = 2,000 ft above), climb/descent arrows, and close traffic lights up amber. A TFC switch and a proper ALT filter (ALL / NORM / ABV / BLW) keep the picture clean.
- The active flight plan in magenta with an ETA over every waypoint, plus NEXT waypoint, distance-to-go and cross-track (XTK) readouts.
- WX: live precipitation radar drawn onto the display in real aviation radar colours (green → yellow → red).
- ARPT & STA: nearby airports, and real VOR/DME/NDB stations with their idents in cyan.
- GS, estimated TAS and the live wind vector top-left — computed from real winds-aloft data.
- Temperature in the wind popup — tap anywhere on the map with the wind layer on and you now get the temperature at that exact spot and altitude, next to the wind. Perfect for judging cruise performance. Thanks PlayerUnknown for the request!
- A350-1000 liveries — all 13 liveries are now fully recognised.
- Flight panel — big departure & estimated-arrival clock times, a little plane riding the progress bar, and the weather lines reorganised for readability.
- Zulu time on phones — the UTC/local switch is now in Settings → Map on mobile too, and the departure/arrival times and waypoint ETAs follow it.
- KML export on iOS — exporting your flown track now works in the iOS app via the native share sheet (Save to Files, or straight into Google Earth).
- Fixes — airspace boundaries are now dashed so they can't be mistaken for airways, frozen winds stay frozen while following a flight, sideways swipes on photos no longer close the panel, and long wind readings no longer overlap in the airport panel.
Terrain, Profile Maps & Custom Colours
18 Jul 2026
- New 'Terrain' toggle (Settings → Map): with a flat camera the map shows beautifully shaded mountains, and tilting the camera — right-click drag on desktop, two-finger drag on mobile — raises the real 3D terrain on demand. A '2D' button appears while tilted to snap you flat again. Weather and the navigation layer keep working alongside the shaded relief.
- Your Profile now has two personal maps. Pilot logbook → Map draws your flown routes as great-circle lines (the more you fly a route, the thicker the line), highlights your home base in gold, and lets you hover any airport for its flights, top aircraft and haul split. ATC log → Map draws ops rings for every airport you've controlled, marks your busiest field, and breaks down sessions per frequency on hover.
- New 'Aircraft colour' (Settings → Aircraft): recolour all the aircraft on the map — classic yellow, white, green, blue, red, pink or purple. Friends, fleets and your own flights keep their own colours.
- New 'Map details' (Settings → Map, under the basemap picker): choose exactly what each basemap shows — country borders, state & province borders, country names, city labels, roads and water labels — saved separately for every basemap. You can even bring roads and cities back to the IF-Style map.
- The 'Freeze wind animation' still now appears instantly, with no brief run-up.
- Fixed: switching a flight to AP+ no longer fires a false 'landed' and then 'departed' notification.
- Polish: the shaded relief no longer looks blurry over the ocean or when zoomed out, and the Android home-screen widget now tells you exactly why it can't refresh (battery saver, data saver or no connection) instead of a generic error.
Units, Waypoint Times & IF-Style Map
16 Jul 2026
- New Units settings: pick your preferred units for distance, speed, altitude, vertical speed, wind and temperature — applied everywhere, from the flight panel and airport panels to the map labels and the altitude/speed graph.
- Tracking a flight now shows the estimated time overhead each waypoint on its route — handy for planning when to jump back in for a step climb. Turn it on in Settings → Map → 'Waypoint times'; it follows your UTC or local clock choice.
- The 'IF-Style' basemap got a proper polish: crisp coastlines, clean country borders and country names only — a look close to Infinite Flight's own map. Switch it on under Settings → Map → Basemap.
- The flight panel now shows the departure and arrival city under the airport codes (e.g. Sydney, London) instead of the airport's own name — easier to read at a glance.
- Airport panels now include an 'Inbound rush · next 3h' chart, so you can see at a glance when arrivals are about to bunch up.
- Fixed: a flight's filed route no longer draws a straight line while it is taxiing — it follows the actual filed waypoints from the start.
- Also fixed: a fast initial climb briefly showing as 'Taxiing', an AP+ cruise flight briefly showing 'Parked', and SimBrief plans drawing a ring around the globe when they cross the date line. Panels are smoother on mobile, and tablets get the full desktop layout again.
Navigation Layer & Charts
16 Jul 2026
- New 'Navigation layer': switch it on in Settings → Map to see real-world waypoints, navaids (VOR, NDB, DME) and airways drawn on the map — the enroute chart behind the traffic.
- Official FAA charts in the airport panel: open any US airport and find its airport diagram, SIDs, STARs, approaches and minimums as PDFs — always the current cycle, straight from the FAA.
- A small legend appears on the map while it's on. Pick exactly what you want to see (waypoints, navaids, airways) and drag it anywhere or minimise it out of the way.
- Everything is zoom-gated and drawn in quiet chart colours below the aircraft, so it stays readable and never gets in the way of the flights.
- The Airbus A350-1000 is now fully supported — named correctly with its own icon on the map.
- Winds aloft can now follow the aircraft you're watching: open a flight, tap the plane button on the wind slider, and the wind altitude tracks the aircraft up and down automatically.
- The wind layer is lighter again — fewer, calmer streaks, especially out over the ocean.
Stability & Filter Pill
15 Jul 2026
- Fixed the rare 'Application error' crash — if flight data briefly fails to load, the map now simply keeps showing the last known state instead of breaking.
- New 'Filters active' pill: whenever flight filters are narrowing the map and the filter panel is closed, a pill at the top shows how many filters are set. Tap it to edit them, or clear them all with one tap.
- A flight plan on the map now has a 'Close flight plan' button right on the map — no more digging back into Settings to remove it.
- Center (radar) controllers now have the full controller profile too — tap the person icon in the Center panel for their grade, stats and logbooks, just like Tower and Ground.
- The SimBrief generator accepts more options: passengers, cargo, route, cruise altitude, alternate, callsign, flight number, registration and units.
- Generating a SimBrief plan works inside the iOS app now — it opens in Safari and imports back automatically.
- Airport photos can now be submitted for every airport that exists in Infinite Flight, including closed real-world ones like Kai Tak (VHHX).
Sign In & Sync
14 Jul 2026
- You can now optionally sign in with Discord or Apple. Waypoint still works fully without an account — signing in is entirely up to you.
- Your friends, fleet, filters and profile sync across your devices once you are signed in. Log in on your phone and everything is already there.
- Discord members can turn on an option to show their avatar next to their callsign on their own flights.
- You can delete your account and all of its data at any time from your profile.
Much Smoother Tracking
13 Jul 2026
- Aircraft now follow their turns between the 15-second updates — a turning plane curves along its path instead of drifting off and being snapped back.
- Aircraft follow their filed route: once anyone opens a flight, that plane glides along its actual flight-plan legs and hits every waypoint. Popular flights benefit automatically for everyone.
- Approaches are handled properly now — a waypoint you have just flown past drops away instantly (the route line no longer trails back to it), big turns are anticipated the way an autopilot cuts the corner early, and on short final the plane lines up with the runway instead of the field centre.
- Gentle cruise turns stay gentle — no more turning far too early and then correcting.
- The icon now points where the aircraft is actually going, so there is no more sideways drift in wind.
- The flown trail behind a tracked flight stays smooth and rounded live — you no longer have to reopen the panel for the curves to clean up.
- All of this works in close follow and 3D too.
Redesigned Flight Panel
13 Jul 2026
- A cleaner layout: big departure and arrival codes with the city name beneath them, a clear progress line, and consistent typography throughout.
- Tap an airport code (for example OMDB) to jump straight to that airport and open its panel.
- Estimated arrival, flight phase, wind and the altitude/speed profile are all still there, just tidied up.
Panels That Feel Native
13 Jul 2026
- Expanding and minimizing a flight or airport panel is now fully interactive — drag it slowly with your finger and the small card and the full panel move together, with no gap or flicker. Flick or let go and it settles at speed.
- Pull down anywhere on a panel to step it down (full to compact to closed), not just the little handle at the top. Normal scrolling still works — the gesture only kicks in once you are scrolled to the top.
- Panels slide up smoothly from the bottom and back down when closed, and menu sheets keep their rounded corners while scrolling.
- The map now remembers where you were: reopen the app or website and you come back to the same location and zoom.
- Smaller touches: a cleaner desktop search bar and top bar, lighter panel colours, and less empty space under the compact flight card.
Smoother Tracking
12 Jul 2026
- Aircraft now glide smoothly between updates instead of hopping — fluid motion, without hammering your device.
- Following an aircraft is far smoother: the camera stays locked on without the old vibration or jumping, at any zoom level.
- Aircraft no longer freeze when you pan or zoom the map — they keep moving live while you look around.
- Labels above aircraft stay steady when you zoom in close, instead of flickering on and off.
- Aircraft icon sizes now match real life — a 737 is clearly bigger than an E175 (some narrowbodies were rendering too small).
- New sliders in Settings → Map let you scale the aircraft icons and airport pins to your taste.
Airport Photos & Panel
12 Jul 2026
- New: airports can have community photos now, just like aircraft liveries — show off your favourite terminals and aprons as seen in Infinite Flight. They appear at the top of the airport panel once a moderator approves them.
- Add one from the Waypoint Discord (/airport) or from the website — there's an “add a photo” link in the airport panel when one is missing.
- The airport panel header now shows the IATA code next to the ICAO (e.g. EDDF · FRA), the field elevation, and the airport's local time and date.
Flight Panel & Alerts
12 Jul 2026
- The flight panel now shows an estimated arrival time and a live flight phase — Climb, Cruise, Descent or On ground.
- Remaining distance and time are now front and centre, so you can read them at a glance.
- New: tap the bell in a flight's panel to get notified about that specific aircraft — choose Takeoff, About to land and/or Landed. Great for catching a friend's departure or an arrival you don't want to miss.
A Fresher Look & Fixes
12 Jul 2026
- Mobile refresh: a cleaner, frosted-glass look — the top bar and bottom tab bar let the map show through, panels have consistent rounded corners, and they slide up smoothly as they open. (The desktop keeps its classic look.)
- Storm alerts now only fire when a storm forms or strengthens — no more pings when a hurricane weakens back to a tropical storm.
- Replay: the controls are properly centred on mobile, plus new 75× and 100× speeds for long-haul replays.
- 3D terrain on the normal map now caps the tilt at a sensible angle so aircraft stay readable — the full near-horizon view lives in the 3D flight-path chase cam.
- Settings now remembers which tab you last had open.
- More reliable push notifications, plus clearer guidance when notifications are blocked so you know where to switch them back on.
Flight Plan (SimBrief)
12 Jul 2026
- New: plan your flights with SimBrief right inside Waypoint and see the whole route on the map — no switching tabs. Open Flight plan from the flight-plan button on the right (desktop) or from Settings (mobile).
- Import: type your SimBrief username and Waypoint pulls your latest OFP and draws it on the map instantly.
- Generate: enter departure, destination and aircraft — picked straight from the Infinite Flight fleet — and SimBrief builds a fresh plan that appears right on the map.
- Once a plan is loaded you get the full route with every waypoint, waypoint names and Top of Climb / Top of Descent markers, plus the route string, cruise altitude, fuel, distance and time en route.
- Toggle waypoints, names and TOC/TOD on or off — show as much or as little as you like — and the map zooms to fit your whole route.
- Your plan is private to you and never leaves your device — nothing is shared or stored on our servers. Powered by SimBrief; a free SimBrief / Navigraph account is all you need.
Your Profile
11 Jul 2026
- New: set your Infinite Flight username once and the map becomes yours. It's stored only on your device — no account, no sign-up. Find it on the new person button above Fullscreen (desktop) or at the top of Settings (mobile).
- See all of your live aircraft at once — with IF's Live feature you can fly several at a time (AP+) plus have others parked. Each shows its status (parked, taxiing, pushback, AP+) and a live progress bar while airborne; tap one to fly straight to it.
- Highlight your aircraft on the map in a colour of your choice — or give each of your aircraft its own colour. There's also a “show only my aircraft” option to clear everything else away.
- Your grade card (grade, flights, hours, landings, XP) and full logbook are right there — plus an ATC logbook with your past sessions when you control. They keep working even while you're offline, once Waypoint has seen your name live.
- Controlling right now? Your profile shows which airport and position instead of an aircraft.
- On desktop the profile is a draggable window — move it anywhere, and it stays open while you pan the map.
3D, Weather & Android Notifications
11 Jul 2026
- Fixed a nasty bug: turning on 3D terrain while the weather layers (winds, radar, clouds) were showing could make the map stutter badly or freeze — even on strong devices — and the wind flow drew as broken streaks.
- 3D terrain and the weather map layers are now mutually exclusive — turning one on pauses the other and it comes back when you switch that off, with a little on-screen note explaining what happened. Your text weather in the flight and airport panels always stays put.
- 3D terrain is sharp again: we removed a blanket quality reduction that was softening capable devices for a problem that wasn't theirs — the resolution now only steps down on devices that genuinely can't keep up.
- New: turning on 3D terrain shows a quick hint on how to tilt the map (right-click and drag on desktop, two-finger drag on mobile) — the relief is invisible from straight above.
- The 3D flight path no longer switches 3D terrain on for you — it starts flat and you can enable the terrain relief with the button up top whenever you want it.
- Android app: push notifications now show the Waypoint icon instead of “Chrome” (rolling out to the Android beta). Notifications in a regular browser are still shown by the browser — that's a platform limit.
Android testers wanted
10 Jul 2026
- Waypoint is now on Android, in closed beta on the Google Play Store — and we need a few testers to help get it released publicly.
- To join, hop into the Waypoint Discord and send us the email you use on the Google Play Store (your Google/Gmail account). We'll add you and send back a link to opt in and install the app. You'll find the Discord link at the bottom of Settings.
- Google needs at least 12 testers to stay in the test for 14 days before it can go public — so please keep the app installed for two weeks (no daily use required). Android only for now; thanks for helping!
The Weather Update
10 Jul 2026
- Waypoint now shows the weather — the real-world forecast conditions out there right now, practically what you fly in Infinite Flight. Everything is individually toggleable and off by default: desktop uses the new cloud-and-sun button (bottom-right, under Fullscreen), mobile has a new Weather tab in Settings.
- Winds aloft: animated wind flow across the map with an altitude slider from Ground to FL450 (smoothly interpolated), an option to freeze it into a still, and wind + head/tailwind at the aircraft in the flight panel.
- New: with winds on, click an empty spot on the map to read the wind right there — direction and speed at your selected altitude, updating live as you move the slider. Desktop and mobile.
- Cloud cover: a soft cloud veil you can set to Low, Mid, High or All — each with its altitude spelled out (low below ~6,500 ft, mid ~6,500–20,000 ft, high above ~20,000 ft).
- Rain radar: live precipitation overlay with a play button to animate the past ~2 hours.
- Airports: coloured by live METAR (VFR green, MVFR blue, IFR red, LIFR magenta) with surface wind arrows — and the airport panel now shows cloud layers, ceiling and the TAF forecast.
- Severe weather alerts (opt-in): get pinged for hurricanes, typhoons and cyclones worldwide — all named storms, or hurricanes only. Tap an alert and the map flies to the storm with the winds switched on where they blow hardest.
- New “Active storms” window lists every storm spinning right now, each with an intensifying / weakening arrow — tap one to jump straight there.
Airline Badges
10 Jul 2026
- Every flight now wears its airline’s code as a compact badge in the app’s accent colour — spot it on airport gates, in the Most tracked list, and on the hover label when you point at an aircraft (desktop).
- We keep widening airline coverage: added carriers like AeroLogic, Privilege Style, Hunnu Air, Envoy Air and Jetstar Japan, corrected a handful of codes, and filled gaps such as easyJet at Marrakesh and United’s new Tokyo–Ulaanbaatar route.
- Spotted a wrong or missing airline? Tell us in the Waypoint Discord and we’ll fix it.
Airport Hover & a UTC Clock
10 Jul 2026
- Airport hover (desktop): point at any airport on the map to see its name and ICAO code right there — quick to scan without clicking. Turn it on in Settings → Map → “Airport hover info”.
- UTC clock (desktop): a UTC (Zulu) clock now sits in the header next to the server picker — the time you plan and file flights in. It’s on by default; hide it any time in Settings → Map.
Settings, Tidied Up
10 Jul 2026
- Settings are now split into three tabs — Map, Aircraft and Alerts — so everything’s easier to find.
- The new Aircraft tab gathers everything about the planes themselves: the labels above them, hide AP+ / parked aircraft, smooth motion, and the Multi view / Multi follow modes.
Export Your Flight
10 Jul 2026
- Download any flight’s flown track as a KML file and open it in Google Earth to relive the route in 3D. Find it in the flight panel on desktop.
The Airline Update
9 Jul 2026
- Open any airport and each gate now shows which airlines use it — most of them by name. Click a gate for a quick “Parks here: British Airways, Iberia …”.
- New filter “Where does my airline park?”: pick an airline and the map highlights only its gates. Combine it with the aircraft-size filter to pinpoint exactly where a widebody stand for your airline is.
- Worldwide — built from real-world airline schedules across roughly 2,300 airports, from the big hubs down to smaller regional fields, including many across Asia that were missing before.
- Spotted a missing airline or a mistake? Let us know in the Waypoint Discord and we’ll get it fixed.
Customise Your View
9 Jul 2026
- Widgets (desktop): choose exactly which side panels you want on screen. Open the map-modes button (bottom-right, next to Fullscreen / Clear HUD) → Widgets, and toggle each one on or off — Filter, Most tracked / Friends, Active ATC, Fleet Board, Featured airports, Events. Your choice is remembered.
- Hover info (desktop): move your cursor over any aircraft for a small info label — no click needed, ideal for scrubbing through traffic when zoomed out. Pick up to 2 fields it shows (callsign, username, virtual airline, livery, aircraft, speed, altitude) via the gear next to the toggle in Settings.
- Filter for “Unknown type” aircraft: the developers’ unreleased test aircraft show up without a type — a new “Unknown type” option at the top of the aircraft filter (desktop + mobile) lets you find them, or hide them.
- Minimisable airport panel (mobile): the airport panel is now a proper bottom sheet — swipe the header down to shrink it to a compact bar, swipe up to bring it back. There’s a second, even smaller step when a filter is active… more on that very soon.
- Fixed: the globe view no longer shows aircraft through the planet while rotating — the far side is correctly hidden now.
- Fixed: the map zoom buttons no longer get pushed up or covered when zooming on desktop.
Airport Maps 2.0
8 Jul 2026
- Gates now show their size class (A–F): open an airport, pick your aircraft, and only the gates big enough to fit it stay on the map — no more taxiing a widebody to a stand it will never fit.
- Every gate dot now sits exactly on Infinite Flight’s own stand position, so it lines up with where the aircraft actually parks instead of drifting out onto the apron.
- Finer ground detail: the thin apron lead-lines between the gate rows are drawn now, so busy terminals look complete instead of blank concrete.
- More airports have gates — where map data was thin, especially smaller and regional fields, Infinite Flight’s own gate data fills the gaps, adding stands on thousands more airports.
Quality of Life
8 Jul 2026
- Flight paths that cross the poles or the date line now draw correctly on the Globe — no more loops around the North Pole — and the 3D flight path works in Globe view too.
- A compass button appears whenever the map is rotated; tap it to snap straight back to north. On phones it now sits in the bottom-left corner.
- New setting: Lock map orientation — keep north up so the map can’t be rotated by accident.
- Follow an aircraft in 3D and orbit the view with a MacBook trackpad, not just zoom.
- Fleet Board: highlight your chosen aircraft on the map in any colour, just like the Friends list.
- Open a shared flight link after the pilot has landed and gone offline and you’ll get a “Flight has ended” prompt — jump to their logbook or the live map instead of a dead link.
- Airport ground maps load faster, and the airport panel now fills in on its own once its data is ready — no need to close and reopen it.
- Mobile: the Filter and Fleet Board window opens centered now, and while following in 3D the search bar tucks away to give the tilted view more room.
3D Flight Path
7 Jul 2026
- Follow any live flight and tap “3D” — the camera tilts into a cinematic chase view and the aircraft rises to its true altitude.
- The flown route trails behind as a colored altitude ribbon that keeps drawing live, right up to the aircraft’s current position.
- Surrounding traffic appears as boxes floating at their real altitude; the nearest airborne and runway aircraft get callsign + altitude tags, and everything glides smoothly between updates.
- Real 3D terrain under the flight, with a sky on the horizon — a button toggles the mountain relief on/off, and the app eases it down automatically on weaker devices.
- On phones: orbit the aircraft with one finger, pinch to zoom with two. Leaving 3D returns the camera to the normal top-down view.
- Works in flight replays too (without the ambient traffic) — and on every device: desktop, tablet and phone.
Push Notifications
7 Jul 2026
- Get notified even when Waypoint is closed — on your phone, in the app, or in a desktop browser.
- Manage it all in Settings → Alerts: get a ping when a specific pilot comes online or takes off, when a virtual airline departs, when a controller opens a position, or when ATC opens at an airport you care about.
- Events: subscribe to community events and pick the server(s) you fly — or all of them.
- Special broadcasts: hand-picked moments from the Waypoint team, like the first flights of a brand-new aircraft.
- iPhone: add Waypoint to your Home Screen first (Share button → Add to Home Screen), then enable alerts inside the installed app — that's how Apple allows notifications.
- Everything is opt-in and off by default; unsubscribe any time from the same Alerts screen.
3D Terrain
6 Jul 2026
- New “3D terrain” option in Settings: real global elevation relief — tilt the map with right-click drag (desktop) or a two-finger drag (phone).
- Works with every basemap and with Globe view; sky gradient on the horizon.
- Entirely opt-in and off by default — nothing extra loads unless you enable it.
Fleet Board
6 Jul 2026
- Compare flights side by side in a movable board: pick VAs, liveries, friends, single pilots — or click aircraft on the map to add them.
- Sortable columns (callsign, type, route, speed, altitude, progress, status) — configure them via the board’s own gear.
- Optional “show only these aircraft on the map” filter that stays active while the board is closed.
- On phones it lives inside the Filter tab.
Smoother Aircraft
6 Jul 2026
- Taxiing aircraft now roll along the real taxiway network between updates.
- Landing aircraft brake realistically on the runway instead of overshooting.
- Flight tracks render 15-second turns as smooth arcs.
- The altitude readout in the flight panel ticks live between updates.
